Pair of Burry oak Sconces with ceramic.

£250.00
Sold Out

These sconces are designed as a pair to sit splendidly on either side of a feature wall or doorway.

They are made with air dried, burry oak sourced here in Southwest Scotland.

Burrs are the gnarly bits you sometimes see on trees and the they are created by factors such as stress, insect/animal damage, infections, weather damage etc.

This stress can affect the growth hormones, and the tree sends new growth to the area and this creates these beautiful swirling patterns in the grain and the little brown dots where branches have tried to grow.

With these sconces I have kept the outer waney edge of the wood after removing the bark and scrubbing it clear, to show the other worldly nodules protruding through.

The ceramic candle cups are hand built by ceramicist Frances Ross from architectural clay and they are fixed in place.

To hang these on the wall, I have inserted two key hole slotted discs to the back of the sconce which gives the piece a solid attachment and won’t move around when replacing candles.

Dimensions: h. 36cm w. 21 cm d. 12cm
